About the Exhibition
Documenting the cultural and culinary evolution of Toronto’s restaurant scene, Where We Gather presents six culinary hotspots shaped by heritage, migration, and blended identities. Across 21 photographs, the series traces the emergence of elevated plates designed for a diverse local clientele. Beyond the food, it features the people behind the craft—the chefs, staff, and communities whose labour and lived experiences define every space.
The idea came about when Nader (Levant Pizza) & Tanveer discussed blended identities and the diversity of the clientele served in Toronto. Each of the spots highlighted infuse their culture and identities in new ways to serve the city of Toronto. Additionally, beyond the food, the exhibit showcases the real people that make each spot special in its own right.
Shot entirely on Kodak Gold 200 35mm film and presented unedited, these photographs use light and color to highlight the people behind these city-favorite gathering spots.

About the Photographer
Tanveer Khan is a Toronto-based film photographer working primarily with 35mm film. Having lived in Kuwait, Mumbai, Montreal, and Toronto, her nomadic background shapes a unique perspective on finding home in unexpected corners of the world.
Her work highlights our similarities across cultures and celebrates the beauty of unguarded moments captured through the lens of film photography.
